Thankful

Around Thanksgiving, I made a list of some things I was especially grateful for this year. Here they are:
  •  I’m thankful we were finally able to get my son glasses again. He was without them for over a month. I can’t even tell you the anxiety I felt every night over his eyesight, praying for his new glasses to be delivered as soon as possible. When they got here, I brought them with me to pick him up at school as a surprise. He was SO excited when I pulled them out of my pocket. My heart is exploding with joy and gratitude at this face right here.
  • I’m thankful for prayer. It’s amazing and it works. It makes miracles happen. I’ve said a lot of prayers the last couple months. There’s some things I believe and then there’s things I know. I KNOW God answers prayers.
  • I’m thankful for sweet, sweet baby snuggles. This little piece of heaven right here continues to be healthy and happy. I couldn’t ask for a greater blessing than that.
  • I’m thankful for friends. Forever friends that keep in touch even though we’ve moved away, and new friends that we’ve met here in Germany. People have literally been angels to me and my family. In the short three months that we’ve lived here, these friends have clothed us, fed us, taken pictures for us, babysat for us, and taken care of us in many other ways. We’ve been so blessed by their love!
  • I’m thankful for my church. Everywhere we’ve moved, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has been there, and with it, instant friendships and support.
  • I’m thankful for God’s hand in my life. He has always been so good to me despite my many weaknesses and shortcomings. He continues to patiently teach me lessons I need to learn. He hears me when I plead for help and He answers with words of encouragement. He bails me out time and time again when I’m in a bind. He forgives me over and over again for the same old mistakes. He’s performed so many miracles on my behalf, even in these last 3 months alone. He is so good.
  • I’m thankful for adventures. In the last few weeks, we’ve gone on many family walks together (my favorite), visited the beautiful Black Forest, and gotten to go to a magical Christmas market.
  • I’m thankful that after a few months of working at it in my limited spare time, I was able to finish up my 30 hours of online nursing credit hours a couple weeks ago. This allowed me to renew my nursing license for another two years. What a relief to check that off the list of things to get done!
  • I’m thankful that I’ve been able to drive our minivan here. With how big it is, I was really worried about parking and getting through narrow streets, but so far, I’ve always been able to find a parking space where I need, and I haven’t hit anything yet (…the accident I was in didn’t count since that was someone hitting me :D :D).
  • I’m thankful for all my husband has done for our family the last couple months. He has cooked, cleaned, organized, unpacked, given me naps, taken the kids, and worked tirelessly on the endless paperwork required for moving here, all while starting a new job. I really appreciate everything he does for us!
  • I’m thankful that all our stuff arrived from Wyoming! We now have a plethora of winter clothes, toys, books, and baby supplies. Hooray!
  • I’m thankful for sweet moments with my family. About a week ago, we put up our Christmas tree. The kids all helped put their own ornaments up. Beautiful Christmas music was playing in the background. Everyone was dancing around, happy, and getting along. Our home was filled with the spirit of Christmas.
After finishing up the tree, my son was cuddling his infant baby sister on the couch. With his hand holding hers, he looked up at me and said, “Mom, I love our baby more than anyone.” Then he looked down at her and whispered, “I love you more than the Christmas tree.” It was such a beautiful moment, it's still making me cry!
